MICKEY GILLEY HONORED WITH CALGARY WHITE HAT

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (April 4, 2018) – Legendary country music artist Mickey Gilley was presented the Calgary White Hat Saturday night at the Deerfoot Inn & Casino in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

“It was a great honor receiving the White Hat in Calgary, just about like when I got the star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, it was awesome!” said Gilley.

The Calgary White Hat recognizes the recipient as an honorary citizen of Calgary and is a symbol of friendship and hospitality that has been bestowed upon celebrities and government officials alike since 1948. Other notable recipients include former U.S. Presidents Clinton and Bush, the Dalai Lama, Oprah and the Rolling Stones.

“It is a distinction given to visiting dignitaries as an Official City Welcome, making our guests Honorary Calgary citizens,” said Kevin Hendrickson of the Calgary Stampede Promotional Committee. “Mr. Gilley was chosen for his lifelong work in the country music industry. We wanted to extend our respect and the lifelong work that he has brought to country music.”

Mickey Gilley is currently traveling and performing both solo and together with Johnny Lee on their “Urban Cowboy Reunion Tour.” The tour kicked off earlier this year and the two have been playing to sold out crowds all over the country.

About Mickey Gilley
Country music artist Mickey Gilley has been wowing fans with his haunting sound of Louisiana rhythm and blues since 1957. The Mississippi native grew up with his two famous cousins, Jerry Lee Lewis and Jimmy Swaggart, surrounded by the influence of music. Gilley made his chart-topping debut with his song “Is It Wrong For Loving You,” in which Kenny Rogers played the guitar. After moving to Pasadena, Texas, in 1971, he opened his world famous honky-tonk nightclub, Gilley’s. He continued to show chart success with hits like “City Lights” and “Don’t The Girls All Get Prettier at Closing Time,” both of which reached number one on the Billboard Country chart. In 1980, Gilley appeared in the film “Urban Cowboy” alongside John Travolta and Johnny Lee. At age 82, Gilley is still going strong and is currently on the Urban Cowboy Reunion Tour alongside Johnny Lee, playing more than 40 dates across the United States in 2018.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – With the release of their highly anticipated new album 17th Avenue Revival (March 16, Lightning Rod Records), The Oak Ridge Boys are hitting the Big Apple this week where the quartet will make appearances on Good Day NY, Varney & Company, Access Hollywood, PBS’s METRO FOCUS, Fox & Friends, IMUS in the Morning, SiriusXM, and much more! 17th Avenue Revival brings The Oak Ridge Boys back to their gospel roots, but with an edge. Under the direction of famed-producer Dave Cobb, the Grand Ole Opry and Country Music Hall of Fame members touched on uncharted territory—and for a long-tenured act like The Oak Ridge Boys, that’s saying something. Somewhat retro, yet new and fresh at the same time, there was no vocal stacking and very few overdubs. For two of the songs, the Boys gathered around one microphone and let the harmonies shine, just as Dave Cobb had planned initially.

Since the start of their highly decorated career, the Oaks have achieved five GRAMMY® Awards, and multiple CMA, ACM and Dove Awards for their crossover brand of pop, country and gospel music that spans multiple generations.

About The Oak Ridge Boys:
The Oak Ridge Boys, who have sold over 41 million units worldwide, are synonymous with “America, apple pie, baseball, pop, rock, gospel and country music.” In addition to their awards and accolades in the country and pop music fields, they have garnered five GRAMMY® Awards and nine GMA DOVE Awards as well as the Mainstream Artist of the Year Award at the ICM Awards. The group—Joe Bonsall, Duane Allen, William Lee Golden, and Richard Sterban—have earned prestigious membership in the Country Music Hall of Fame (2015 Inductees) and Grand Ole Opry, and are known worldwide as one of recording history’s most extraordinary musical successes. They have charted single after single and album after album, celebrating two double-platinum albums and more than 30 Top 10 hits, including No. 1 chart-toppers “Elvira,” “Bobbie Sue,” “Thank God For Kids,” “American Made,” “Y’All Come Back Saloon,” among dozens more. ABOUT SHENANDOAH:
GRAMMY®, CMA and ACM-winning hitmakers Shenandoah are celebrating 30 years of chart-topping hits as the group gears up for new music and non-stop touring in 2018. Fueled by Marty Raybon’s distinctive vocals and the band’s skilled musicianship, Shenandoah became well known for delivering such hits as “Two Dozen Roses”, “Church on Cumberland Road” and “Next to You, Next to Me” as well as such achingly beautiful classics as “I Want to be Loved Like That” and the Grammy winning “Somewhere in the Vicinity of the Heart” duet with Alison Krauss. Today that legacy continues as original members Raybon and Mike McGuire reunite to launch a new chapter in Shenandoah’s storied career. Raybon and McGuire formed the band in 1984 in Muscle Shoals, Alabama with bassist Ralph Ezell, keyboardist Stan Thorn and guitarist Jim Seales. Shenandoah inked a deal with the legendary label and began establishing a national fan base with their self-titled debut in 1987. However, it was the band’s sophomore effort, The Road Not Taken, that spawned their first top ten hits—“She Doesn’t Cry Anymore” and “Mama Knows.” Shenandoah followed with three consecutive No. 1 hits—“Church on Cumberland Road,” “Sunday in the South” and “Two Dozen Roses.” “The Church on Cumberland Road” spent two weeks at the top of the chart and made country music history as it marked the first time that a country band’s first No. 1 single spent more than one week at the summit. It also helped propel sales of the album to more than half a million units thus giving Shenandoah their first gold album. Shenandoah became known for delivering songs that celebrated the importance of faith and family while reveling in the joys of small town life. “Next to You, Next to Me” topped the charts for three weeks and “Somewhere in the Vicinity of the Heart,” a beautiful duet with Alison Krauss, won a Country Music Association Award for Vocal Event of the year and a Grammy for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. Shenandoah also won the Academy of Country Music’s Vocal Group of the Year in 1991. Shenandoah recorded nine studio albums and placed 26 singles on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (December 1, 2017) – Madame Tussauds, the world-renowned wax attraction that opened its Nashville location in April, officially revealed their newly minted Randy Travis wax igure on December 1st during a special event honoring the country legend. Photos from the reveal are available via Dropbox.

To capture the Country Music Hall of Fame member’s likeness, Travis underwent a “sitting” with Madame Tussauds studio artists in Nashville. The research team took more than 300 measurements while Travis himself donated personal items of clothing to create a true likeness.

The figure is dressed in late 1990’s style featuring a suede embroidered jacket, jeans Travis donated himself and a 1991 Gibson J-185 guitar.

“I have been excitedly waiting to see the figure in person,” said Travis. “The Madame Tussauds team did a fantastic job capturing my likeness and I can’t wait for my fans to stop by the attraction to see it for themselves.”

After 40 years of dedication and influence in the country music genre, Travis’ legacy will be immortalized by the figure on display at Madame Tussauds Nashville.  Randy’s wax figure will be the 50th figure in the attraction and the last one introduced for 2017.

With a completely different concept, the attraction in Nashville is the company’s first offering in the U.S. that focuses solely on music icons that have shaped America’s musical landscape. Guests are encouraged to have fun with the famous stars from musical genres such as Country, Rock n Roll, Jazz, Blues and Pop.
